Isla San Andres

Located in the town of Carboneras, east of the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar and opposite the beach of "La Puntica", lies the "Isla de San Andres".
This natural monument is a symbol of identity for this coastal town. It is a volcanic island of small size, about half a hectare, which is close to the coast. Although at first glance appears barren and naked, is home to a natural high. In the cracks, craters and hollows of its funds as animals live groupers, croakers, cuttlefish, octopus and crabs to spawn and feed on the vast prairies of oceanic Posidonia. This plant also exclusive to the Mediterranean coast of harboring wildlife underwater marine prevents erosion and keeps the water clean and oxygenated. Already on the surface of the island can be seen seabirds as "pardelas", "Cormoranes" or "Paíños". Some of them, being a safe place away and have their place on this island for nesting, as in the case of the "Gaviota patiamarilla".
The landscape offers this coast is extremely beautiful, you can stroll on the "Playa de los Muertos", located in the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar, or know the defensive fortifications in the municipality of Carboneras, "La Torre del Rayo", "Castillo de San Andrés" or "Torre de Mesa Roldán".
